The busiest time of the year has arrived! As we dive in head first into the holiday rush with shopping, cooking, and transforming our homes with festive decorations, we sometimes fail to take into consideration the most common home emergencies that tend to occur during the holiday season. Even during the most wonderful time of the year, accidents can happen that can lead to significant home damages, injuries, and even fatalities.

Although emergencies most often occur when you least expect them, you can do a great deal to mitigate potential damage by anticipating and being prepared. This is particularly true when it comes to being ready to act in the case of a fire emergency.

Fortunately, a house fire is not something that everyone has experienced in their lifetime. Unfortunately, most do not realize that house fires are more common than people think. According to The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) there are more than 360,000 home structure fires each year, resulting in about $6-8 billion dollars in damage.

As a member of the NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency), Cornerstone is above all else concerned about your safety. We’ve seen an increase in dryer fires of late and wanted to make all aware how they can be prevented.

The NFPA reports “only 8% said their first thought on hearing a smoke alarm would be to get out!” That’s alarming! Yes, yes, pun intended. And although 71% of Americans have an escape plan in case of fire, only 47% of them have practiced it.
